The Wyrm's Decent
It had been approximately three years after the defeat of the first great dragon. Following Berk's shining example, villages ceased fighting dragons and, instead, joined the reptiles in a struggle against the tyrannous giants. With each struggle for freedom, the humans deepened themselves into the world of dragons and their ceaseless oppression.
Not very long ago, a respectable Dragonologist had a breaking discovery. The beasts with which they fought were not related to the dragons.
The oppressing giants were named 'wyrms'; an ancient creature once thought to have been extinct. More over, they had subspecies within themselves. Like the dragons, the wyrms had their own kinds and strengths.
To make matters worst, they could communicate between each other and were not as foolish as they first seemed to appear.
At the first signs of rebellion, the wyrms became more aggressive. They assigned powerful dragons to remain by their sides and live out of the oppression of others like they did, making those their loyal body guards. The guards, in turn, were healthy and well fed, enough so that they could frighten other dragons into remaining loyal to the wyrms. Like such, the beasts no longer fought alone. Instead, they built themselves great armies of famished and innocent dragons which riders were less than willing to hurt.
Our own story follows what could possibly be described as the worst confrontation with the wyrms yet recorded.
Across the seas from Berk, in the vast fields of Tale, an enormous wyrm resided. For ages, it had formed it's forces, extorting and oppressing anything that could fit in its jaws, building itself an impressive army. The struggle against the beast has been endless and unrelenting. Despite Tale's best attempts, the wyrm was clever, cautious. Never had it left it's citadel and never had human eyes laid on it. Daily, the beast sent it's cohorts to wreck havoc. Unlike most wyrms, it ordered the dragons to kill anything in sight, whether it were edible or not. This was no famished beast, this monster was possibly the most disheartened being yet alive.
It is here, in Tale's darkest period, that our heroes reside. With claws and axes did they write the story of this land.
And with the help of our stories will they gain their wings...
